Level 1 - The Human City of Arx When you talk to Carlo now, he gives you the key to the Crypt (36). It is a good idea to have some wooden stakes in your backpack along with some healing and mana potions when entering the Crypt. Level 4 - Crypt Level 1 The first level of the crypt is located on level 4; here you can use the pickaxe to raid the graves. Arx Libertatis is a modern port for Windows and Linux that fixes numerous issues (install Arx Fatalis Patch 1.21 first if using a disc version). The most recent official release, 1.1.2, is from October 2013.
Amidst a veritable flood of RPGs comes, a first-person role player developed by France's, arriving next month from JoWood.Arx Fatalis takes place in the magical, mystical realm of. Once a prosperous, flourishing kingdom, Arx Fatalis was quite literally plunged into darkness when the sun mysteriously fell from the sky. Now the world's inhabitants have relocated underground, where multiple disagreeing interests have once again given rise to conflict. At the outset of Arx, you're imprisoned, defenseless, and almost completely threadbare, not to mention devoid of any knowledge about who you are or were. The only friendly face around is the one belonging to the person in the adjoining cell, who begs for your assistance in breaking out. After managing to free yourself from the cell, your next order of business is take out the lone goblin on patrol with a bone from some nearby human remains, as unlikely a weapon as there's ever been.

After raiding the goblin's corpse for items by double-clicking on it, you find yourself in the prison's nether regions, searching for a way to get out of the prison and back into the outside world. A few dozen dead rats and spiders later (not to mention some light puzzle-solving), you should now find yourself and your new ally battling a decidedly tougher goblin. Defeat him and freedom is yours.By now, you ought to know a few things. One is that your new name is Am Shaegar, which basically means 'the one who has no name.' The other is that the world is now a frigid wasteland unsuitable for any kind of life.
The last and most important is that you should have at least some grasp of how the interface works.Right clicking brings you into menu mode, wherein you'll have access to your various menus by clicking on a number of icons located in the lower left portion of the screen. This mode lets you rearrange your inventory, use and equip items, check your logbook, and peep the runes you've collected, which you use to uncover new spells. However, while in this mode, your movement is severely hindered. You can walk or run forward, backward, and sideways, but you can only look forward, which can make for a rather sticky situation when an enemy leaps upon you in the middle of equipping a weapon. Yes, you heard right. Save for the occasional cinema or pressing of the escape key, the game does not pause at all, not even when the screen is covered up by the various displays. So you'd best make sure that everything is the way you want it before heading into battle or any unfamiliar territory.Speaking of battle, the tab key activates combat mode just in case someone or something needs a well-deserved broadsword makeover. Combat in Arx Fatalis is a rather simple affair.
Just click the left mouse button to swing, fling, or shoot to your heart's content. There are no hit percentages either, so twitch gamers and first-person shooter aficionados can rest assured that at least part of their success hinges on their adeptness at aiming and clicking as fast as possible. The remaining part is dependent upon the player character's proficiency with certain weapons and a variety of skills, in addition to the various attributes the player decides to upgrade.Character creation is classless, so you can expect to have a great deal of freedom over how your loin-clothed protagonist develops. When compared to other RPGs of its ilk, however, the skillset is very small. This is somewhat compensated for by the fact that the abilities tend to be very broad (i.e., a close combat skill that covers all melee weapons as opposed to a different skill for each type of melee weapon).Where Arx Fatalis manages to shine is with its unique and interesting magic system. Runes with arcane symbols carved into them are scattered through the game.
When found, they can be added to your collection and stored in your spellbook for future reference. Spells are basically different successions of rune symbols that have varied results. To cast one, you have to enter magic mode by holding down the control key and then 'draw' a specific combination of runes. If done correctly, the spell is cast. This may sound a little heady for those accustomed to simply clicking on an icon and watching the sparks fly, but thankfully that crowd hasn't been completely alienated, since spells can be pre-cast by holding down both the shift and control keys when drawing the rune symbols. When performed correctly, the symbol for the spell appears in the lower left corner, indicating that the spell has been 'stored' for usage later on.
Double click on the icon and voila, instant fireworks. Don't get too trigger-happy, though. Only three spells at a time can be pre-cast.Visually, Arx Fatalis is very easy on the eyes. The textures and bump mapping are fantastic, and the character models look and move very lifelike, in that 16th century Shakespearean sort of way. For a debut engine from a relatively unknown company, it's very impressive. The spell effects and other environmental attributes such as water are also well done.Arx is no slouch in the design department, either.
Although I seem to remember trolls as being short, slimy rapscallions with massive, crooked noses instead of the ogre-type monstrosities seen here, there's a nice variety of creatures to fight and interact with, some small and insignificant, some pants-wettingly large and powerful. Additionally, the environments are quite large and fairly well designed, as well as interactive. There's nary an object in the game that can't be picked up, used, or examined in some capacity or another. These various treats and trinkets can range from everything to food to makeshift weapons to everyday items that are required to complete puzzles. If the main storyline can't manage to keep you busy enough, you can expect a sizeable number of sidequests to keep you occupied during the downtime.
Arx Fatalis is full of NPCs waiting to be lent an ear. But it's not as though you're the only guiding force in their lives. I for one have noticed townsfolk and groups of enemies conversing amongst themselves from time to time, allowing me to pick up on bits of information I might otherwise not have gotten.Arx Fatalis shows some definite promise. The key elements are there, and it's most certainly a fine-looking game that could provide a nice experience for RPG stalwarts in search of something a little more action-oriented than what they're.
