World Of Warcraft Single Player
So, today, after countless disconnections and repeated deaths because of it, the time it took to come back online I thought to my self, 'What if there were an offline version to this game, no internet connection needed at all'. So I made a post hopefully that a Blizzard empolyee will stumble upon and take this post onto consideration and further it to the developers of WoW. Offline WoW - Advantages: (Benefits) -No disconnections.
No connect required - mind at ease about disconnections -More Frames per second (Due to the connection required, some frames have to be cut to even out the connection. You can see this when you disconnect - Your Frames Per Second increase to an offline gaming standard while disconnected to the game, but you are still in control of your character).Less CPU needed overall. Seeing as it takes 330K - 550K memory off me which is a 1/4 of my Memory overall. If an offline version was implemented then less CPU/memory would be needed in effect because there is nothing to connect to. In effect: less memory required to run the offline version.Smooth gameplay and no lag during questing.
World of Warcraft - Almost A Single-Player Experience. Fortunately for people like me Blizzard has realized that those of us who have commitments still want to experience content and may never lose their emotional bond with their character (my Paladin and I are tight). WoW now offers more ways to play without the need for friends (or scheduling the game into your life).

While playing WoW online, sometimes there is a error where it says 'You're out of range' however you are in range (Client sided). This would not be the case in the offline version because you aren't connected to the World/Server.No ganking during quests. Some pure PvE players at low level especially get 'Ganked' or 'Owned' while questing, while you're offline, there is only you versus the world and there are no other players against you. Offline WoW - Disadvantages (Restrictions) -No PvP. Since there is nothing to connect to on the offline version you can NOT enter PvP.No guild services. If you are in a guild and you are playing offline then there will be no guild services available to you, even though you are still in the guild offline.Grouped quests will be impossible to accomplish (Base-level to unlock and attempt at base-level). You're offline, no help available. You can not use AH or anything related to AH.
Since it's offline there will no items for sale since there are no players with you on the offline version. Offline Online update system So foresay you were Offline for 51 levels of your Toon and you wanted to go back on online WoW, then you would need to go through the O.O.U.S (Offline to Online Update System) routine. This basically updates your character for online play: All your deaths, kills, gold, level, weapons, armour, stats will be updated ready for online. Possible question you might ask Q: Will this require more downloads so we can use the offline version? A: Just a little, a small function to the game which might use up 1MB max to accomplish. My vision for this is that when you open the game (Where you see deathwing), you will have the option to go offline above the 'Cinematics' option. Q: Can you make a Toon through offline?
A: Unfortunately not because the Toon has not been registered to online. This is primaryly for: If you make a Toon and delete it offline then Blizzard will not be able to restore it or have any records on it.
Q: What if the person offline hacks? (Besides botting) A: Of course this is how Blizzard encounters it, since that you can't view the hacker in any way or see how they're manipluting the game then Blizzard will have to also implement something along side the 'offline WoW idea' Q: Is offline WoW like online WoW? A: Yes without the connected services (PvP, Parties, Guildes, Dungeon-party runs ETC) Q(1): Will I keep my subscription while i'm offline? A(1): Yes but only till it expires. Before you go offline, the game will read your expiration date of your subscription and make a countdown clock. Q(2): What if my subscription expires offline and my subscriptions renews itself, will I still be able to play? A(2): No, until You go online so it can begin the countdown clock again.

This prevents unlimited offline gameplay. Playing online game offline kinda kills the meaning of it. But let's take a look at your suggestions: 1. Get a better ISP. No, seriously.
And believe me you - if I connect directly to any EU server, my lag is like 20000ms (yes, twenty thousand milliseconds), so I need to use service like SmoothPing to get it down to 250ms-600ms. But the core issue lies within my ISP, as I constantly get connection resets when opening up websites. But the (locally) cheap price keeps me to it, as when it works great, it is great.
If you get low FPS, either lower your graphical settings or buy a new computer. Running on kinda lowish settings on 2009 Macbook I get 60 FPS when questing, and 30 FPS in crowded Stormwind. You have (powerful) CPU and memory to be used. And complaining that WoW uses half a gig of memory when e.g., Firefox uses 1.5 GB with some mere 40 tabs open is not IMO a problem. And you should buy couple gigs more: doesn't really cost anything, but makes your computer run smoother. Ganking sucks, true, but if your 'solution' for this is no make an online game an offline game, I'd rather die every now and then.
Plus as you stated, idea like this would just be used by botters. Heck, everyone would be using bots if you wouldn't get caught for it no matter what.
I have to admit that back when WoW was new I did hope that it would have single player option. I dreamt of doing instances alone and being able to do raids alone (as in scenarios). Then both WoW and me growd up (hey, I was just bit over twenty years when WoW did come) and I started to realize why this would be bad. Just a couple reasons out of hundreds: - Monthly fees would be harder to implement to game which you can play offline (not impossible nor even hard but harder than now (basically you would have to log in to server before you start playing single player game atleast every now and then)) - Single player game would be easy to pirate, of course even now there is servers for WoW and good guides how to set up one but this is nothing compared to what would happen if there would be single player option.
WoW is mmorpg, doing multiplayer content alone kinda negates everything - All content would have to be made several times. As in single player mode, harder single player mode and all of the options we have now.
As I said these are just couple of reasons. It's an absolutely rubbish idea. I can understand the 'but I want to play NOW!' Feeling, but WoW as it is, but without MMO, would rank among the worst games in history. Keep in mind that due to client/server trust issues, you can NOT progress you character in single player mode.
You could farm mobs, complete quests gather minerals. But you wouldn't be allowed to keep the rewards when going back online. The success of WoW is primarily based on two things: advancement of a persisting character, and interaction with other people. Neither works in an offline environment. It's technically impossible to do this in a secure manner. In any proper MMO (WoW included), every calculation is handled serverside.
When you loot an item, you send the server a message that you intend to loot the item. The server confirms that the item actually exists on the corpse being looted, adds it to your inventory, and send a message to your client that this item now belongs to you. A client cannot be trusted to tell the server 'Hey, I've gotten every epic BoE drop since I was last online'. No matter how clever Blizzard are in trying to prevent this, some hacker will be even more clever in finding a way to reverse-engineer and circumvent. It's an absolutely rubbish idea. I can understand the 'but I want to play NOW!'

I could've gave it more thought when posting. Did seem like a nice idea from the start but never knew that it would have so many downfalls over one idea. Thanks anyway.
